The Village of Bachevo (Бачево) is located in South-West
Bulgaria, 10 km to the north of the ski resort of Bansko and 6 km
to the north of the town of Razlog as well as 5 km to the popular
Katarino Spa Resort.
This sleepy quaint village
is relatively small (1700 inhabitants/67 km²), nestled between the
Pirin and Rila mountains and beautifully surrounded on all sides
by forests, natural springs and mineral waters. In spring and
the warm summer months, the village blossoms with abundant wild
flowers, lush green fields and forests and singing birds. In
autumn, the forests become mottled with the orange, red and yellow
hues of the deciduous trees mixed with the rich green of the pine
trees. In winter, with an altitude of 700-1000m above sea level,
snow-laden trees and snowy fields simply make the village picture
perfect.
With Bachevo being one of the very few villages in rural
Bansko that maintains its' winter access in high winter, the
village really can offer the best of both worlds with quiet
'postcard village' life combined with easy access to Bulgaria's
top ski resort which boasts 65km of well maintained pistes.
Ideally suited for walking, mountain biking,
quad bike and skidoo safari's, Bachevo is also the focal point in the Bansko region for
horse riding tours in summer with two riding stables in the village
offering a big choice of outings in the surrounding countryside
and forests.
With its natural mineral spring baths with healing
water, within walking distance of the town, Bachevo is popular as a bath and health resort in and around the region.
The Sedarch River and its' tributary - the Kouda River -
also pass
through the village, both of which are suitable for fishing.
Bachevo has some interesting antiquities and landmarks which
include:
- Mineral spring with healing water
- Traces of New Stone and Stone-Copper Ages settlements
situated to the north of the village.
- Remains of a Thracian and a late antiquity settlement
- Traces of Thracian and Roman settlements with a mound
necropolis situated to the south of the village.
- Ruins of a late antiquity fortress south-east of the village
- a front door, tower and traces of buildings are preserved.
- Ruins of a mediaeval church, to the north-west of the
village
- Traces of a Bulgarian mediaeval settlement in the village
itself, dating back to the IX-XI century.
